Helene Knabe came to Indianapolis from German in 1896 because her Cousin Auguste Knabe suggested it. She first work in the Athenaeum/Das Deutsche Haus, like many German immigrants did, but she stayed with her cousin on Bates Street.

She took some classes at Butler when it was still in Irvington

She enrolled in the Indiana Medical College in 1900 and worked hard to get her MD.

She graduated in 1904 from the Indiana Medical College, below her graduation photo. Original and colorized with Google Gemini AI.
State Board of Health - Laboratory of Hygiene where Doctor Knabe worked for the state after they moved out of the Statehouse basement rooms.

Board of Trade Building - where Doctor Knabe had an officer after leaving the State Board of Health.

In1909 she opened a practice in the Delaware Flats apartment building and also resided there but still had her office in the Board of Trade building. This is where she was found murdered in 1911.
